Domain registration and domain names are one of the most misunderstood services related to the internet. Here are facts you should know about domains and domain registrations:

When you register your domain(s), you want to consider your legal business name (or legal name) first, then acronyms, then nicknames and then finally, common misspellings. Confusing or "Gorilla" Tactics
Don't be confused by complicated websites that "bait and switch". In the domain industry it is common for domain service providers to attach other more expensive services to your registration. Many times, as you try to navigate through your domain account, they constantly try to upsell you by providing links that are ambiguous or confusing in your registration screens or when you go to check out. We've seen people in our competition pay up to 79.00 per year for dot coms because of attached services they were not even aware of.

Other tactics involve hold times on domain transfers, rates that change weekly (or daily), creating confusion as to what you are actually paying. Also, watch out for the fine print. Some registries will offer Top Level DOmains, or "TLDs" for discount prices, but charge much more for other domains. Also, many of these deals are bundles with other services. Other services, like Privacy or "Identity Guards" prove to be useless, unless of course you are a celebrity or government agency. Another service that kicks in without warning is "Domain Rescue". Domain Rescue is basically holding your expired domains for ransom (up to 90.00 for dot coms). The registrar commandeers you expired domain, then charges you an inflated rate to get it back. The illusion is that they "saved" your domain, while there is a 5 day grace period in most registries anyway.
